75% of Idahoans believe it is absolutely essential that students be taught critical thinking; only 29% believe that teaching farming, agriculture and forestry is absolutely essential

81% of Idahoans believe teaching students to work hard and be responsible is as important as teaching academic subjects

49% of Idahoans pick students' own effort and motivation as more important in determining achievement than teacher quality (34%) or school standards (15%)

Public education is critical to Idahoans. In fact, they are more likely to point to public education (50%) as the most important issue facing Idaho today than they are to point to “the economy” (40%), with another 9% saying it is “the environment.”

When I travel, I take a lot of pictures. When my children were teens, they would roll their eyes as the shutter on the camera whirred. I wasn’t taking pictures of my kids; I was taking pictures of other people’s kids, buildings, cars, motorcycles carrying five people and a pig, and things that were different from my ordinary life.
